IEEE1394 captured DV looks half size in Media Player

Hi...I just recently got a new digital camcorder (JVC DVL-825U), and a new firewire card, and hooked everything up. I am using Vegas Video 3 for my capture/editing. I am able to control the camcorder just fine, and capture video just fine. However, there seems to be a discrepancy between the properties of the clip and the dimensions shown in media player.

The uncompressed, originally captured clips are said to be at 740x480 (or what ever DV res is...)...and when I make my projects and edit them, then output them, I can output at that size. However, if I view the original uncompressed clips in Windows Media Player, they show at half size...and the "VIEW" selection is on 100%, not 50%. Is this thing actually capturing the full DV stream at full res? Or is it paring down the file by taking every other pixel. I've tried every combination of options that I can think of, and it still happens....OR, does Media Player just display DV clips at half res because the data rate is so high?

Machine is the computer in the sig, with a Maxtor IEEE 1394 card.

There is a trick for this one. You need to go to properties and find DV decoder. It is usually set to "half resolution".... You have to change it to "full resolution".

I don't remember how to do it in media player 7 or higher..... In media player 6.4 you select file -> properties -> advanced and you can change that setting.

Somebody else should know.

What do you mean half size? If you go to File>Properties, does it display the correct video size? I run my desktop at 1600X1200 and full resolution NTSC looks kinda small at 100% in WMP window, is that what you mean? Also make sure WMP is expanded, your clip will show as 100% even if its scaled in the window.

The data rate of DV video is actually quite low, less than 4MB/min so thats not it.

What I mean is that when I view the clips in WMP, they play as if they are 370x240 or whatever...not 740x480. I actually just did a search and found the answer to my question (after using a lucky combo of search terms), which alexruiz had the gist of. Thanks!
