Does one exist? I have an IBM 1.0GB microdrive that I use in my Canon Powershot G1 camera and the performance is rather sluggish through the USB based sandisk reader. When the drive is inserted in the PCMCIA adapter and used in a notebook it's much better!

For desktop use, an i-link (firewire) interface would be cool. Right now I share the microdrive out on the notebook across fast ethernet.

Also, the SMC PCI wireless 802.11b pci card lets you remove the card (pcmcia card). I wonder if the microdrive+adapter would work if plugged into this! That would be very cool.

Cheers!

The price is about what I expected but 3x faster than USB sounds incorrect. I believe firewire is ~33x faster than USB. Perhaps the reader itself is only that fast.

Cheers!

There are several. This one by Lexar is worth a look:

"The FireWire CompactFlash Digital Film Reader has a suggested retail price of $xxx.xx. It is available in the United States at Lexar Media resellers. The FireWire reader is also available at Lexar Media?s online store. The FireWire reader will be available in Europe by the end of the year."

Is it expensive? Depends on how bad you want it. :)

Is the Lexar microdrive compatible?

I was actually surprised that the Sandisk (why do people call them Scandisk...argh! :|) worked with the microdrive!

Cheers!

>>Is the Lexar microdrive compatible?<<

Should be! The Microdrive is built on the CF form/function factor and also can fit nicely into digital cameras with CF slots such as Canon and Nikon.
