IE8, Spybot, and SpywareBlaster

I've tried to update to IE8 on my Vista machine, and it makes IE slow to startup and open a new tab. I've searched and its apparently a problem with Spybot and SpywareBlaster that causes this, although they work fine with IE7. I've went back to IE7 for now.

What's the best way to remove the Spybot/SpywareBlaster stuff so IE8 want run slow? Are there any better Spyware programs that I should run instead? I have Windows Defender and SuperAntiSpyware as well. Or should I just stick with IE7 until an update fixes this problem.

You could de-immunize. I tested with Spybot S&D, and immunization resulted in ~10-second time to load Yahoo.com as a start page. De-immunizing fixed that. I sent my contact guy at Microsoft a heads-up about it, so Microsoft and/or Safer Networking may address the issue before too long.

If you're mainly looking to prevent tracking cookies, which is part of the function of immunization, try this in IE6, 7 or 8. Heck, or 9 😉

1) open up the Internet Options panel and go to the Privacy tab.

2) set the slider to Medium-High and click Apply

3) click the Advanced button, check the box for overriding automagic cookie handling, and arbitrarily forbid third-party cookies.

Done.
