So I found IE7 to be rather slow, but did the job...I was more of a fan of Opera's speed, but compatibility sometimes was a little bad...
anyhow, I installed the IE8 beta on both my xp and vista machine and have been playing with it the last day, and it is much quicker! No complaints at this point, it does have a compatibility mode, and the private mode does work well.
No complaints, looks like its pretty good,
anyone else have impressions?

It hasn't broken anything :^P

I use FireFox for just about everything, so IE has a pretty marginal existence on my machines. In my limited use of IE8 though, I haven't had any problems.

I like the IE8 in private mode. I can watch CNN, Reuters, etc. videos on Gustav and when I turn it off I won't have a bunch of extra cookies. I have FF set up the same, but with the overall "porn" mode in IE8 just feel it is a little more of a sure thing. Well, as sure as MS can make it.
So when I surf my FastDial sites I use FF, IE8 for new places I might not trust. And I use Flock...oh, I just like to go to Flock to look at pictures of travel places mostly. Type in Kuala Lampur, for instance, and it is easy and quick to see photos others have put up. I never use Opera anymore, although I admit I think it is quick. I liked the SpeedDial, but FF now has FastDial. I also liked Opera's View-Fit to Width. I haven't found FF to do it as easy. I like way the IE8 did a quick and simple job of getting my Firefox bookmarks. So far I like IE8.

Both were decent O/Ss. WinME should have been built on the NT kernel, and there's damned little wrong with Vista considering how new it is.

Did you even use ME?

Man, that thing sucked.

People are overreacting on this. WinME was bad, but it wasn't any worse than Win98. It deserves a bad reputation, but it's not special or anything.

I won't comment on Vista because we've already had eleventy billion threads about it.

Exactly. ME's biggest problem is it wasn't 2kpro. Compared to 98 it was fine, but quite lacking when compared to 2kpro. I never had any more problems with ME than I did with 98. It was relatively stable as far as DOS based O/Ss go, and ran everything for me that 98 did. But I much preferred 2kpro.
