I usually use Firefox with Adblocker Plus 1.1.1, but with the latest versions 3.5.3 and 3.5.4 and Win 7 a lot of ads have been getting through.
So I thought I'd give IE8 a try with an adblocker suggested by another forum member, Simple Adblock. It seemed to work ok, but prevented me from using the back button on my mouse.
I then tried IE's built-in InPrivate Filtering. There's a good article on how it works at Neowin.net. Too early to tell how it's working because it has to first learn your browsing habits.
You can import lists, and someone at the dslreports forums has created an xml for InPrivate Filtering from the Adblock Plus list. Link, but you have to rely on him to keep the list updated.
My beef with InPrivate Filtering is that you have to keep enabling it when you switch windows or close IE8 and reopen it.
From MS:
"When you start InPrivate Browsing, Internet Explorer opens a new window. The protection that InPrivate Browsing provides is only in effect during the time that you use that window. You can open as many tabs as you want in that window, and they will all be protected by InPrivate Browsing. However, if you open another browser window, that window will not be protected by InPrivate Browsing."
I checked its settings, am I missing something, is there a way to keep it permanently enabled?
Are there any other ad blockers for IE8 out there that work?
