IE7 problems - computer not booting correctly

So my DELL XPS 700 has been here for almost 2 months, i barely played with it, I only got to reinstall XP and my software 2 weeks ago. I made a ghost image at this point. it's been working fine since then...

until Monday I updated the computer to IE7, and today (Tuesday night) the PC literally takes almost 20 minutes to boot and even then it will freeze a lot when i click on anything explorer.exe related like taskbar, start menu, right clicking menu, etc.

First I blamed it on an additional IDE DVDRW that I put in, but removing it doens't help. tried a few things over an hour, Safe mode to perform Windows restore... nothing works. So I backed up some C drive files (most files are on another hdd thank god) and used ghost to apply the disk image from 2 weeks ago back onto the C:

Screaming fast now.

Conclusion: I blame IE7

Although I have to admit that I did install it on an older XPS 400 as well. That one didn't give me any problems... (yet)
