IE7 p.i.t.a. issue

whenever I start up the computer, open up IE7, connect with dialup,
the first web page I go to (any) will say "cannot be displayed" and have to reload it.
except google.com.
going to any page from that will have to do the reload-it-no-matter-what-the-first-time thing also.
drives me nuts.

whazzup with this?? I seem to remember reinstalling windows and it doesn't do this the first few days, then it starts up.

edit: decided to add a poll

Has the problem begun offlate or was it always an issue after your fresh re-install? Could be a connectivity problem. I googled and found some steps to solve the problem here which might be of help. Also, download Malwarebytes and scan your system to rule out a spyware/malware problem.

If your google search results are like go.google.com then you've got malware. It hijacks all your web traffic and sends 404's to most websites except ones it can inject with nasty links.

I had one of those website barring malware on my PC long before. Was running Windows 98 and dial-up then. Always gave me a 'Page cannot be displayed error' in IE and the dial-up connection box would auto pop-up when I closed it. Was really annoying! :|

For the price of either of the other options, you can get a LOT of pizza. I'm going with pizza.

just reloaded windows, doesn't do it. it should start up again shortly. I won't change anything, to rule out a configurational issue. thanx for the diags tools, that's some work but maybe it will help get this resolved.
