IE6 status bar disappearing

I have it visible in my first window, and if I opne links in new windows it is there. but if I hit ctrl+n or go to file -> new window, bye bye status bar. how do i get it to stay?

It's actually a XP bug . . . IE6 doesn't have that problem in W2K, ME or 98SE.
