Screenshot of problem

troubleshooting a friends computer.

Windows ME
NVIDIA RIVIA TNT card 16mb

When using IE6 to browse the web all
jpg's on a page show as corrupted. Just
a mass of colored dots. I don't know if it
was doing this before they upgraded to IE6.

I installed latest video drivers... no help.

really strange... never seen this problem before.

.jpg's display properly through other programs.

i tried searching Microsoft Knowledge(?) Database... no avail...

any ideas??

thanks,
moe

ZeroEffect, have you tried IE's built in self-repair?

START-SETTINGS-CONTROL PANEL-ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS , scroll down to MS IE6 & Internet Tools, then click ADD/REMOVE. Choose "Repair Internet Explorer."

Hope this helps.

Zim, No go on the Repair Internet Explorer fix.

still the same problem. I really need to find out if
this was happening before they upgraded it to
IE6. I think it was, thats why they upgraded to
see if it would fix the problem. I think this is going
to take a complete OS reinstall. I forgot to mention
the OS is WinME... upgrade from 98se.... i never
reccomend upgrading like that... wierd stuff always
seems to happen.

thanks for the help though!

hmm i didnt know about the fix... tight! 😀 might fix some of my random lockup problems....

IE6 seems to handle j-peg immages funny, if you look at a nice big desktop picture for example, it resizes it so that it fits on the screen. If you could disable this and set it back to the old way, that might fix it?? or perhaps this new system is only used on j-pegs in full screen view.

<< Riiiight >>

The reason I ask is that certain amd k6-2 and early athlon / duron chips had problems with jpg files, but of course you realised this didnt you 😉

this is a famous AMD bug, but I di NOT have this problem on my previous AMD rig though when I first saw the discussion on dissorted jpg pics in IE on AMD platform.

you might search in google (and the group in google too) to find more info.

ahh yes! It's a Duron 700!

i knew i was leaving out vital info...

shouldn't post at 3:00 a.m.!

Thanks for the help guys!!

Google search gave me lots of info.
pretty certain it's the chip... any chance
AMD would RMA it? 🙂

<< thats ok I am sure Mankou understands my question now <sarcasm mode off> >>

OK, I think that you made your point. But I have a duron 700 and I never had any problems with pictures or programs. You should be more specific.

You could say something like:
"Certain amd k6-2 and early athlon / duron chips had problems with jpg files. Have you got an amd cpu by any chance?"

And you could say 'why would you mention AMD ?' not riiiight implying that I dont know what I am talking about 😛

Since many compare AMD CPUs with toasters just because they have the tendency to get warm, your comment made me think that you were one of those.

Nah I'm just to lazy to type, i'm more of the dont post unless you have got something to say - I always look at posts / time joined it helps to weed out the powervr trolls
