IE5.5 Freezes

I am experiencing severe difficulties with IE5.5 under Win2K. The browser seems to have extreme problems handling forms of any type.

For example, entering a search query at google.com completely freezes the browser for up to several minutes. Then the browser recovers, the query is submitted, and the results pop up instantaneously.

I've also experienced freezes when moving between form fields, such as during the registration for a discussion board.

I've attempted "repairing" IE through the Add/Remove applet in the control panel. However, upon rebooting the system, after logging me in, Win2K freezes completely. A check with the task manager shows a mysterious "ie4unit.exe" process which when killed allows me to resume the bootup normally.

i experienced such freezes using IE5 under win98se before. the system would simply freeze up when it is loading some webpages, and my other apps would be affected as well. if i am playing something on winamp it would freeze momentarily, and when it resumes playing, IE resumed loading the page as well.

i had to reinstall my IE to get it alright. maybe clearing up the temp internet file folder would help?

I have had soooooo many problems with IE over the last year or so, I have finally given up, and am in the middle of configuring "Opera", a fairly new browser, has a really small footprint, and so far has been extremely stable.
I was running Explorer 5.0. and when I updated to 5.5., things got really bad :(

I ran into a similar problem with IE before as well. I seem to recall it was actually being caused by a corrupt DUN. I know that sounds ridiculous, but after a re-install of DUN and rebuilding the dialer, all was good. Give that a shot...
