IE stopped working after un-installing XP SP2

I have a very wierd problem on my machine. I have XP Pro installed on the machine. I initially installed XP with SP1 and then updated all the patches from microsoft along with SP2. Everything was working at this point. Then I had to uninstall SP2 hoping to resolve some other issues with sound driver (Realtek). But, once I uninstalled SP2, IE stopped working. I can access the internet using the windows explorer, but not IE. I can ping any web site, but when I try to open up the url, it fails to open in IE. I installed Mozilla Firefox, and that doesnt open any url's either. I reinstalled SP2 back on the system and IE still doesnt work. I manually re-installed IE from the XP CD using the command line (grabbed the instructions off the web). But, I still cant get it to work. Other than re-installing XP from the CD, is there soemthing I can do to fix this issue. I tried rereg for iexplore, but that didnt work either. Any suggestions ?
