I've run adaware, spybot, cwshredder, hijack this!, tzsar, spyware blaster, and spykiller, and still my damn problems persist... my homepage automatically resets itself to some "Search Everything!" site (searchpage.cc/1525/), and even forced me to use FireFox, since not only is my homepage reset, but every URL i type is redirected... and every single scan has recognized the presence of files related to it, at least.. and they all delete what they find, and each time i start IE again the thing resets itself. i don't need to hear about how i should use FireFox or Netscape, or Opera, or whatever alternative browser you prefer. I prefer IE, right or wrong, because though this problem has been a major headache i still find IE to be much easier to use when it's not broken. :p ...with Firefox, in addition to all my keyboard shortcuts not working, there are a bunch of flaws in web site content, navigation, and multimedia. with IE, all my shortcuts work, navigation is a snap, and every page displays the way it's supposed to, and all the scripts work the way theyre supposed to. which is where the double edged sword comes in... because thats how i got infected in the first place.

anyway, sorry for the book/rant, but this thing is pissing me off, and ive been trying to fix it for so long i might as well have reinstalled freaking windows by now. i'd just like to know how to fix it if it ever does happen again... since im probably just going to reinstall windows as soon as DriveImage gets shipped, and using firefox/netscape/whatever for those few days will not kill me.

Hmmm try going to the command prompt and typing in netstat -a... If anything looks weird there then you probably have a hole in your security. Also what Anti Virus software are you running. I would do a scan on it because spyware doesn't reset thing like that normally. If none of that works just reinstall.

You could try booting into safe mode, then run your scanners. Sounds like it has a memory resident prog running that puts the reg info back in on shutdown. Also look in where windows puts its downloaded web programs and see if anything looks fishy and throw it out.

He's tried cwshredder.

Heres what I would do: uninstall any weird programs that you see installed. Run regedit and delete anything in there that looks supicious. Make sure all of your security levels in internet explorer are set to default. Download and install spyware blaster. There is an option in there that grays out the option for changing your home page and then nothing will be able to change it.

If you have System Restore, turn it off and let it delete. Sometimes you can end up with a vicious circle of stuff being removed only to have it still on your system via System Restore. Run the software you have + Hijack This, reboot, etc. and see if your problem goes away for good.
