When I click on a wav file in IE (5.50.4134.0600) it opens up as a page with a bunch of wacked-out letters and stuff. Like this: BØy¿³åÚ´«cFÿó@ÄöÚ÷?x?xxâv
It's all cool looking and stuff, but I really would rather hear the sound instead.
How can I associate it to open up with winamp, or media recorder or something?

For example, when I click on this wav file, it brings up that screen of characters.

By the way, I have Win2000.

Thanks!

Yeah, I have media player 7. The problem is that IE doesn't seem to associate media player, winamp, or any program to open the wav file while I click on the link. It just opens the file up as text. Is there a way to associate files with the programs IE uses to open them?

Download Winamp
or any of one of these music players here

Or just open your Windows Explorer program the thing with all the files listed with directories.

View>
Folder Options>
Then the File Types tab>
Scroll down to Wave sound>
Then edit>
Then click play and edit a program that will play wav's

May sound confusing so just get Winamp

Well, I have winamp too. The problem isn't files, like ones that are sitting on my desktop. Those are associated with programs, like winamp, and open up just fine. It's files that are linked, in webpages. Like in my first post, I linked to a wav file. When I click that link, it used to open up the wav file in winamp. But now it brings it up as a page of text. I usually know what I'm doing, and I'm pretty clueless here. Other linked files work fine, they open in the correct programs (like video, etc) but wav and midi files don't. And it all works fine in netscape, so it must be an IE thing. But there's gotta be some way to fix it.

IE uses the file associations from Windows itself, so it sounds like yours got messed up somehow. As others have said in this thread, download and install/reinstall either Windows Media Player or Winamp to restore the proper file associations...

Yay! that worked. I reinstalled windows media player. You're right, the associations must have gotten messed up. Glad it wasn't something stupid I was missing.

Thanks.
