I delete my cookies every day just so i dont leave a trail off all the sites ive been to and gotten cookies from... but it is annoying to have to type in my username/password to logon to a forum (because i deleted the cookie). When i click to delete cookies in IE, is there a way to make it leave some cookies. Like make some cookies invisible... or locked, so they dont get deleted, but all the rest do?

Depending on your version of IE you need to do the following.

Tools --> Internet Options --> Security Tab --> Trusted Sites

Then click on "Sites" button. You now enter the address of the sites which you are happy to place cookies on your system. I.E http://forums.anandtech.com (Don't forget to uncheck the https:// checkbox if your using site addresses that are not secure.

Then goto Tools --> Internet Options --> Privacy and move the slider to the top to stop all cookies.

Hope that helps

:)

www.anandtech.com is not the same as forums.anandtech.com

Double check to make sure you are letting forums set the cookie.

Get a cookie manager or configure IE to ask which cookies to accept or reject permanently (basically what the cookie manager does). You can do this by checking on "prompt" in privacy/advanced.

Use Mozilla, it's cookie management tools work great. Just set it to ask whenever a site wants to set a cookie, most sites you can say no and check the remember check box to never be asked about that site again, once you browse like this for a day or so most of your sites will have been setup and you'll only be bothered when visiting new sites or new ad sites pop up (no pun intended).

it set IE to block all cookies unless i set it to allow the site. that works great. i didnt really like mozilla when i tried i, simpler the better. IE with the google toolbar/ popup blocker is all the features i need.
