IE Browser image errors

Ok, earlier this week I had to put a new hard drive in and re-install everything. Since then, certain webpages have never worked the same. Most will have broken images in the browsers, frankly, this is starting to irritate me now. Sites that used to work fine no longer display images any more. For example, go to Gamespot. My friends have told me that all the images appear yet this is what I continually see: click

I have downloaded the latest Java applet (version 2x1.4.1_01) from Sun and I have all my cookies set to accept all first and third party cookies. I have no idea what it could be, please help.

BTW I'm running Windows XP
512 SD RAM
1.3ghz AMD Athlon
80 GB western digital primary
40 GB IBM deskstar slave

Do you have kazaa installed?
It may be blocking the sites that host the images.

If so edit or delete the hosts file.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc folder
& delete/modify the hosts file.

The hosts file is created when you choose to install the supertrick ad blocker when you install kazaa.
Its blocking the sites that are hosting the images.

I somehow don't think Kazaa's hosts file would block images from the AT servers, it's a problem that quite a few people have been having, due ONLY to IE

If it was a hosts file problem, then why did moving to Phoenix stop the problems?

Confused

I think it is the HOSTS file, I'm looking through it with notepad and there are a lot of sites listed here that some images weren't working (ie zdnet/gamespot). Is it safe to jus delete the HOSTS file?

Dunno, all I knew was it worked for me and several others , so I suggested that it may be the problem.

At least it works now.

I'll gladly admit that in this instance, i wasn't totally correct 🙂

I will remember this for the future, tho 🙂

Actualy I keep having the same problem. Glad that it worked for you though. I am using the hosts file but the problem existed lond before I stareted using it and I have tried runing without the howsts file with the same problems. I have read somewere that IE SP1 has problems displaying images with all Windows versions other then XP. I have IE SP1 and XP SP1 and still have the problem. Also, I believe I had this problem before I had IE SP1 or XP SP1. As far as other browsers go I have tried many but they are all either to slow or too buggy. Most are netscape based, but unfortunately no true IE based ones.

Thanks

It started with xp sp1 for me. I've searched the net many times for a solution but all I've found was many people with the same issue.

Add me to the long list too. Mind you I have Kazaa installed too and removing the HOSTS file intrigues me. :frown:
