Alright, so multiple people use the computer I'm on and what happened was someone downloaded something that installed a browswer hijacker and search toolbar. So I searched around for the toolbar ect that was installed and found a nice little program called HijackThis, which very efficiently removed the toolbar. But what happened after that was IE stopped being able to connect to websites. Later on I went to ping a site and that wouldn't work either, nor tracert. I tried to reinstall tcp/ip by deleteing winsock and winsock 2 and stilll had no luck.

I am running windows xp and mozilla so it isn't realy that big of a problem but i would like to be able to ping and what not

thanks

In order to reinstall TCP/IP under Winxp (and w2k) you have to do a "reset"

from the command line go:
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

then you can examine the resetlog.txt if you want for details.

If that doesn't work then delete all your network connections, uninstall the network drivers, and then re-setup your network connections. That should get it going.

The ping issue maybe caused by a third party firewall. Turn that off and see if that fixes that.

Your can do a repair of Internet Explorer + affiliated programs (outlook express) by acting as if your going to uninistall internet explorer from the control panel, as you do that it will ask if you want to do a repair. Say yes.

Or

You can head on out to microsoft's website and download the latest IE download and install that, it will effectively do the same thing.
