IE and MSN Messanger

Just wondering if anyone has come across this problem. or have and possible idea what to do to fix this.

What is happening is when the customer is signing in to his Hotmail account in Internet Explorer it will freeze because it is also trying to tie / sign into Msn Messenger as well. I have tried it in Firefox and it works ok, also i have tried other hotmail accounts and it still freezes in IE. I have removed the MSN messenger and it will work fine. Once msn messenger is installed again it will freeze/lockup.

I've tried a repair install as well, also with only sp1 installed. did updates to sp2 and all after that still does it too.

Now I am at the point where I am stumped. And a Format IS NOT an option

Weird...try logging onto Messenger first, then access Hotmail directly from one of the entry points in Messenger.

If there are still lockups, set Messenger's options to not launch with Windows, and not logon automatically. This should stop lockup when accessing Hotmail directly.

I'll take a look around and see if I can't find more info. BTW, is this v6.2? Or is it the v7.0 beta? If it's the beta, which build?

I can't find anything, but I have heard of this problem some time ago...that person was running a third-party add-on for Messenger (I think it was Messenger Plus!, not sure). Plus! is very finicky, it wreaks havok if the wrong build is installed (each release is completely broken with each new release of MSN Messenger...you must use a specific build of Plus! with the specific build of Messenger it was intended for).

If Plus!, Mess Patch or any other add-on is installed, try getting rid of it.

Thanks for the responses, could get to look at my post earlier than this. It does work fine when you log into messenger first but seeing as there are 2 users with hotmail accounts they dont really want to always have to log into messanger, which is version 6.2, as there is no addons to it either. Aslo the auto logon and auto start options are turned off in the messanger options

Thanks again for looking, ive tried but could not find anything

OK, I just tried a different scenario...I exited MsnMsgr and then logged into Hotmail, and the browser window appeared to lockup, but TaskMan showed nothing as "Not Responding". A right-click on the button in the taskbar seemed to make it recover, I reached my Inbox, and the auto-launch of MsnMsgr was working.

There is apparently a bug with the new Wave10 Hotmail release from last week. Must be some sort of API call that Hotmail does to MsnMsgr that they fubared.

Sorry, not sure what to advise. Try my solution above for now. Another option would be to uninstall MsnMsgr and use WebMsgr at webmessenger.msn.com instead for now.

edit: darn http script doesn't seem to work today...

edit #2: wow, simply switching to plain text REALLY screwed up hyperlinking...

thanks for looking into it. What we end up doing its removing msn messenger altogether because the machine is for a home businuess and thier kids should not be on it at all (they have their own downstairs). I aslo suggested that to put a password on the user account so that the kids cannot get into the machine.
