IE 8 (and Chrome) can't handle six animated gif files running simultaneously? WTF?

Yea it kinda freezes up when trying to scroll around the page when the gifs are in view.

same, rig in sig, i can hear the HD thrashing like mad too which makes absolutely 0 sense.

Does anyone know why IE and Chrome (and to a lesser extent Opera) have trouble displaying animated gif files? Are animated gif files considered something of the past, and it doesn't matter anymore if browsers can display them properly?

Works fine for me in FF, but in IE8, it lags when scrolling around it.

Someone go to a forum that uses animated gifs for their member avatars. See if the forum lags in IE8 😵

I've always had serious issues with IE of any version. I seem to be in the minority with most others not having the same issues, but I'm not surprised with this.
