IE 7 RC1

Just downloaded it and I must say that I've been a firefox fanboi for quite some time but the browsing speed on this thing is just insane. Definately recommend giving it a go

I like it, though I've noticed high CPU usage when surfing sites with losta flash, like Gamespot.

Why have an expensive, fast processor if you ain't gonna use it? Not to say you are bitching, but it just makes me think of people who bitch because programs and new, upcoming OS's use a lot of RAM. Why are people afraid to use what they pay for?

I'm in the exact same boat. I've been a huge Firefox fan for years, but I kept reading articles and reviews about the various beta versions of IE7 and how they were actually looking pretty good. With the release of RC1, I just decided a few hours ago to check it out for myself. While I can't really give any in-depth thoughts on it after such a short period of time, I'm really liking it so far. I was kind of iffy about using IE after the stigma that IE6 developed for the name, but right now I'm glad I tried it out.

I agree blurredvision. I personally like to have my desktop, for example, full of Widgets and eye candy and to make the most out of my rig. If World of Warcraft bumps my CPU usage to 100% and eats up 700MBs of RAM, that's okay. It's a massive game. If encoding MP3s in LAME bumps CPU usage to 100%, that's great. In fact I'd be worried if it didn't!

But when IE7 (in my experience) has high CPU spikes it gets very choppy and clunky in websites that are smooth as butter in FF, that's when I start disliking it, and I hope MS gets it fixed, as I do like the browser and its features (I love the RSS feed implementation).

Is it easy to revert back to IE6 if we don't like it? It seems that traditionally, IE gets embedded within windows.

I haven't actually tried to uninstall it, but IE7 shows up under Add/Remove Programs. The IE7 website said that uninstalling it there will remove IE7 and revert back to IE7. Now whether or not it actually works out that nicely, I don't know.

According to the install, it cannot be removed yet

Ahhh, you didn't mention that it was getting choppy and clunky along with the higher CPU utilization. That makes my post completely pointless. 🙂
