IE 6SP1 error on install

I downloaded the IE6.0SP1 service pack installer. I let it do the usual, then when it started to install the components, it said this program does not have a digital signature, installtion will not continue. The program terminates, and my computer restarts. And nothing gets installed. Yes the program is direct from M$ site.

That link explains whats going on sorta, but the thing is you can only use gpedit.msc in xp pro. I'm on xp home. Does anybody have any type of workaround that they know of? Or a way to temporarily disable digital signature verification? Or should I just download the xp service pack?

Question: do you have a Win98 computer around the house anywhere? Win98 systems can download the entire full-meal-deal IE6 SP1 browser install in its entirety, by downloading and running the installer, but then clicking the Advanced button and choosing to save the installer to disk to run later. And when you do this, you can opt for more than just the Win98 flavor.

As for disabling the digital signature checking, I know where you would do that in Win2000 Pro... Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options and set Unsigned non-driver behavior to "Silently Succeed."

No Win98 computer around. Can anybody help out in that area?

Nothing worked. And I don't really want to do a repair install because that gets scary.

YES! YES! YES!

You probably wouldn't know how much hell I had to go through to get this to work, but for some reason this most basic of options actually freaking worked.

If you go there it tells you how to download IE6 SP1 directly to your hdd and then install. And for some reason it works. I don't know why but it does.
