The status bar (on bottom) sometimes just dissappears. I ran a full adaware & spybot and have no viruses. The sites I frequent are AT and bleedingedge.com and some othe tech/review sites. I can always turn the bar back on, but it goes away again. Any ideas???

Sorry, but I have no idea. My IE status bar sticks around, but I have a similar disappearing status bar problem in My Computer and Explorer windows.

Heh - I have the same problem. It's never bothered me enough to look into fixing it though.

Here's the fix...

Close everything... open up Windows Explorer (not IE), and make sure that you have selected the status bar to be viewed. Then go
to Tools -> Folder Options, then click on the View tab and click on the "Like Current Folder" button.

Nope, I mean the "Like Current Folder" button. Don't forget that I am talking about Windows Explorer here. I've seen this
problem numerous times and this always fixes it.

Just make sure that you've gone View -> Status Bar first.

Try clicking the "Apply to All Folders" button in the "View" tab in "Folder Options" (with the status bar and other preferences set as you'd like).

Edit: this is on WinXP Pro. It may be different on Windows 2000.

I believe this works with both Win2k, XP, and 98... I had this problem on my work machine which is Windows XP... I may have gotten
the menus wrong because the only Windows machine at home is Windows 98....

I discovered the problem and reported it in the fourth post down in this thread. My kids were clicking things.... My daughter (4 years old) has a knack for reconfiguring a desktop and program settings. There are tons of interesting suggestions in here though... thanks!

And when you hit CTRL+N, it doesn't go away again? It always disappears for me.

When I hit CTRL+N, another IE Browser window opens and gets focus, but the original window stays the same, with the status bar.
