IE 6 Favorites icons

When I add a bookmark to IE 6 (Windows XP Pro), some sites, like this one, include a custom icon. I find, however, that after a while - perhaps related to rebooting - that these custom icons disappear and I'm left with a generic IE file icon.
How can I force IE 6 to keep these custom icons. I find them very helpful to find site like this one or /. easily out of a long list.
Thanks!

I think it IE stores icons in the Temporary Internet Files and when you delete the temp files , so goes the FavIcon. I like the (free)FavOrg app from PC magazine, it works great..FavOrg

Wow. That's a great little app.
Thanks!

Interesting, though, I don't recall clearing out my temp folder. Oh well, this will do the trick!

That all depends on where you keep your icons for customizing. I customize many of my Favorites icons, and I keep a large store of them in a folder C:\Windows\Icons. When ever I customize a favorite, I get that icon from there.

BTW - in XP, when you purge temp Internet files, it does not lose the favorites icons. They are stored in the Favorites Folder.

I've been using favorg for a couple years and that's great for preserving the favicon in the favorites folder. But, what about a way to retain the favicon so that it shows up in the address window in the ie browser?

Changing the size of the cache for temporary files is not practical and it slows page loading since it will look for what is cached all the time instead of loading a fresh page. When you overwrite the cache it will overwrite the favicon and you'll lose it in the address window.

I've tried changing the attributes for the temp folder to allow for this and it will not allow you to change them, nor can you make favicons permanent within the folder.
