Just installed IE6 beta, which seems to be fine. Unfortunately it also has to upgrade Outlook Express to ver 6.0, and now when I click on my short-cut, I get the message "Outlook express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be loaded"

I guess it was updated during the install.

Foolishly I kept my InnoculateIT PE on during install. Hope this wasn't a problem.

In the event log I have a list of 5 files which are related to Outlook that were restored to the origianl version following an attempt to replace them - windows file protection did this.

Can the new files be located in my system, or will they have been in temp, and since I've rebooted they've gone?

Looks like I might have to return to IE5.5 and MSOutlook 5.5, but before I do, can anyone help get my Outlook working, as I'd like to try IE6, but need my e-mail!!!

lucidguy, thanks for breaking the news so gently.

any way I can save my e-mails, given that I can't even open outlook? can I copy the .dbx files and put them into my newly installed outlook, and then open it and read them? surely it can't be that simple, and there's security problems?

Why don't you see if the file is still on your machine. Maybe you can restore it from a machine that has that file. You can also see if the IE 6 has a repair feature, see if that will correct it.

I think formatting and reinstalling is a bit much for just one application problem. See if Outlook (not express) will work.

This is appreciated. I'm going to give this a try when I get home. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks
