IE 6.0 won't activate internet links from the Links Toolbar

Not sure if this is the best category for this particular problem but any help is greatl appreciated:

HP zt1000 laptop
20 GB HD
512 MB RAM
Win XP
IE 6.0

This morning my laptop suddenly doesn't want to activate any of the links by way of the Links Toolbar. If I open the Favorites menu (either from the drop-down menu or the "Favorites" button) I can access my links. It's only when I try to activate from within the Links Toolbar that it won't work. Whenever I click on a link the screen flashes as if it was going to go to the site, only it doesn't.

I also noticed that Pop-up Killer was showing the links in the open links section of the program. I checked to makee sure they weren't being block and they weren't. I completely shut down Pop-Up Killer and removed all blocks but that didn't help.

I also used the Add/Remove feature to remove IE 6.0 and then add it back in, but that didn't help.

Anyone have any ideas to fix this? I hope I don't have uninstall and reinstall IE, as well as re-do all of my links.
