At some point in the last several weeks some type of advertising program hijacked IE 6.0. On each page an ad for a local company embeds itsself INText the page at the top. Shortly thereafter I noticed that I had in increasing frequency of fatal errors (most give me this error MSVBVM60.DLL at 015f:7350ea25). I figured that I would try to go back to IE 5.5 and then reinstall IE 6.0. I think it's important to add here that I have a BellSouth ADSL line and BellSouth claims that these local adds are not something they are forcing me to deal with. The reinstall didn't seem to work either so I sent a message to this forum and several people suggested ad-aware. After running ad-aware I found a ton of stuff had been added to the registry, with a ton of unwanted stuff running in the background, etc. I used the program to delete them all. It helped me with everything EXCEPT the local adds that appear on every page and that must be causing the exception fault. I don't seem to find a way to completely uninstall IE to go back to IE 5.5 and be done with it. Where other than the add/remove software can I get a clean uninstall to try this all again? Or, is there something else I'm missing that would correct this.

Have you gone through the whole msconfig route and removed suspicious startup items?

In case you don't know what I am talking about, goto RUN and type msconfig and goto the end tab and check through startup items.

Try Spybot Search and Destroy as well. You also may want to consider a reload at the very least start backing up your data you want to keep.
