IE 6.0 Freezes in Win2k!!! Isn't this outlawed?

Ok, now I am puzzled. I thought Win2k was supposed to be very stable but this sucks!!
I am running Microsoft's Internet Explorer 6.0 with the latest patches/security updates from "Windows Update" and all the latest drivers. Yet IE still freezes. No overclock, no crappy ram, no intensive programs. I am on DSL and a P3-450. Brand new install of Win2k (two days old now).
I have open about 20 instances of IE and alt-tabbing through them because I am doing a research project that requires many views on a topic. And I have Microsoft Word open. All this on 384 megs of ram.

When I click on a link or when a stupid popup like the X-10 camera comes up, the IE window in the foreground freezes for about 20 seconds and all other instances of IE works. After 20 seconds or so, the popup loads and then the IE window is ok. That is very annoying. AT forums are also loading slowly (I have to wait about 30 secs before I see the topics).

On two occasions I had to use the RESET button because I switched to another window of IE and it just froze everything. What the hell. I read all the time about people who have had their setup up for six months straight. I can't even make this thing go for two days.

What could be wrong!????

The freeze is not in your OS or IE6 . . . when that happens it doesn't matter what OS you are running . . . what you have sounds like a classic video freeze. The problem is in your video card and its settings.

I would make sure you got SP2 on for W2k.

When everything is loaded bring up Task Manager (ctrl-alt-del) and check the IExplore.exe is taking 100% or near, then your system can't handle that much. Also check the Performance tab to see what CPU usage is running at.
Try increasing pafefile might be a good thing. Even though you got plenty of RAM Windows still uses the pagefile for old instances not currently in use.

Yep I have SP2, I slipstreamed it in. Video card issue? Hmm... How does a freeze in IE have to do with the video card? all my other applications seem to work fine. 😕 I am running a TNT2 Ultra with the non WHQL 12.41.
