IE 5 temp internet files question

Okay, here's what I'd like to know. In IE 5, when you are downloading a large file, it spools the file to a temporary file in your cache, and doesn't write it to the directory you chose to put it in until the WHOLE file is downloaded.

well in the case of mpg movies, you can view partially downloaded files. while its downloading, it won't let you open it usually because its in use by IE, but you can right click/copy the partially downloaded file, and paste it somewhere, and it will copy what it has so far, and you can view it.

only problem is, I can't find where IE stores partially downloaded files whiles its downloading them (windows 2000/ ie 5.01).

I've looked in documents and settings/administrator/temp internet files/ and its never there, and I go to tools-internet options, temp. internet files, "view files" and its never in there either.

so the question is, where does it put them? also I hate it when a download times out at like 80%, and the whole movie is lost even if I don't clear the cache, because I can't find out where its putting them

any help?

Ashamed? I don't think that's the proper word. So long as he's feeling free and airated then I'm ok with it😀

D:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

That is the path to the temp files. username is the account you logged in with which in my case is my name. If you log on as administrator it will be in that dir. Inside that last dir eg content.IE5 are 8 dirs. IE puts it's temp files in those dirs. It's a pain to check all 8 to find your file but that is where they are stored. Hope this helps.

I don't know if this will answer your question but I find temp files for 98se in c:\windows\temporary internet files whether movies ... whatever.

I figured out that you could go here to save ads from www.adcritic.com since they block out the right click "save" option while you're on the website. Fine, I just go to this Windows folder and cut/paste the file to whatever folder I want. Works for me.

these folders appear hidden for me. Also they dont show up when I run a search for files. 🙁 anyway to make them show up instead of being hidden? and yes I have both hidden file options enabled in my tools-folder options.

btw -thanks for the tip

got a little different question.

Why does my temporary internet folder have the following subfolders:

Content IE5
xydnget
wcoemto
rccangg
pnsoetb

All these folders have the same files in them!
