IE 5 always maximizing window

I'm a dedicated Nutscrape user. Have been for 4 years now. I'm gritting my teeth and trying to use IE on a regular Basis, But I have one naging problem. Everytime I open a link in a new window I have to maximize it. Nutscrape always opens links in a maximized state. Am I missing something or do I have to settle for that? :| NO Way, I just must be missing something. Is there a setting somewhere to change this behavior?

Not sure this will work on your configuration, but you might try maximizing the IE window, then closing it while holding down the Ctrl key. Next time you open IE, it should (might?) open maximized.

I think you may need to drag an IE window to as large as you can **without** maximizing it, then do the CTRL+Close (X at the top right). Then all new windows will will be that size.

With NO IE windows open, it will start in the location of the last opened window.

By golly, I think you're right SUOrangeman! I've always been working at this from the other perspective, deliberately setting the IE window size to some smaller-than-full-screen size then using Ctrl-Close to "save" the window size setting. I didn't consider the fact that it wouldn't work for preserving the full screen window. Of course in any case there are lots of sites out there that jack up your IE window size to near-max without so much as a by-your-leave, and that becomes your new default window size until you reset it again. Sometimes I use a little utility named BrowserSizer to start IE in specific window sizes. (It's handy for examining the appearance of a Web page at different resolutions.)

Thanks for catching that.

Jim

NicColt,

Oh sure, if you want to do it the EASY way. 😀

As I said before, I'm always trying to NOT get it maximized. Now that's a problem that I haven't found a sure-fire answer for. But I believe that I have heard that using the maximized window selection from the drop-down doesn't work for everyone. But I can't imagine why.

Regards,
Jim
