I'm in need of some assistance. Our office purchased new computers (Compaq Evo D510 SFF Win 2000 Pro) and now I am unable to download anything. This is the error message: "Internet Explorer Cannot download xxxx.EXE from xxxx.Exe" and at the bottom it says "Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

I have checked the security settings to make sure that the download box was checked and it is. What else could be blocking explorer from downloading?

Before the upgrade, I was able to download. The only thing that is different is the PC and OS.

This is driving me crazy. I can't seem to locate the problem.

Thanks for any assistance

Are you using Dial-up connection or on a Lan?

If on a Lan, open IE and go to:

Tools \ Internet Options \ Connections \ Lan Settings
If you are not using a Proxy, make sure "Proxy Server" is not ticked.

Also, make sure that "Automatically detect settings" is not ticked

Are any of the other office computers able to download anything? It's not just .exe files, right? Is your office in a domain?

Try using a downloading manager like Getright or Net Vampire, just to see if it works.

The 3 computers in the front office were replaced and NONE of them are able to download anything. The 5 computers in the back office (that were not replaced) are able to download. And yes, it's not just .exe files.

I'm also not able to see streaming video or listen to internet radio.

new comps=Win2k ..old comps= ?as being on a LAN are you able use the new comps to surf to the old comps(if they are using WinMe/Win98)..? sounds like a networking config prob(workgroup/domain/etc.)..you might want this thread moved over to that forum..gl

ScrapSilicon,

Get a load of this, The new comps actually had Windows XP Professional pre-installed (The product key sticker is glued on the case as well as the WinXP logo). I can only assume that it is a network compatibility issue as to why they chose W2k Pro over XP. Also, the Old PC's also have W2K Pro installed. So, the OS's are the same. and we are all connected on the same lan. However, I am unable to logon to the PC's in the other office. I have to physically walk over there.

as a side note, I installed KLITE v 2.0 (from a disk) and am able to download mp3's. So, there must be something in IE that has been modified?
