IE 5.5 SP1 and Win2K

Weirdest thing happened, installed IE 5.5 and SP 1 and everything in the add/remove dialog box went blank with no names of installed programs. Any idea of why this would happen.
 
I don't have the problem you speak of, but IE 5.5 SP1 doesn't seem to work to well in Win2k. I can't run Java applets, and while browing things like the anandtech forums every other page seems to come up expired, and it's becoming a pia. I have to reformat for multiple reasons, and when I do I will be returning to IE 5.01 SP1.
