IE 5.5 going to sleep? Any help appreciated.

My IE has a problem. My setup is a cable modem going to a network hub, then going out to 2 computers (mine & wife). Each computer has a seperate IP.

My problem is, if I leave my computer on for a while and come back, I can't surf the internet and have to restart my computer. I try to surf, but it keeps comming back with the page not found error. Soon as my computer restarts, I have no problem getting on to the internet. Meanwhile, even if I can't surf, my wife's computer has no problem accessing the internet.

That leads me to believe it's not the cable modem or ISP, but rather some mystery "sleep" mode or something within IE or my computer programs or hardware that needs to "wake up" when I get back on.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,
Gary

Is there any perticular reason for using (and I assume paying for) 2 separate ip's? I have used a cable modem on 3 machines at once just running from the hub to the box. If you don't require the two separate ip's for business or something, try using just one for both. I guess if you used your wife's it might be more stable since she has had relatively fewer problems with hers. If that isn't an option for you (maybe you have higher morals than I :)) then collect all the info you can from your wife's computer and amke sure your setup mirrors the essential settings. Obviously some would be different but the bulk of how and why it connects should remain the same. Good luck.

ok, thanks. I just have 2 ip's cause I had some trouble getting it all going so I called tech support and had them hook up a second ip. It's not that much more money and doesn't bother me. But I doubt my morals are any higher than yours. :)

I might try putting in a new network card in my computer, have a couple lying around. Maybe mine isn't one of those auto-wake things... think that could be the problem?

Thanks again,
Gary
