IE 11 changes jpeg names to "attachment"

Windows 7 64 bit Internet Explorer 11

On some websites/forums, when I right click on images and "save as", jpegs are re-named the generic word "attachment" instead of the real picture names. On the same websites/forums using IE 10 and Google Chrome I can save them by their real names.

This started happening after installing IE 11 several months ago. I've been looking for an update or work around for this, but can't even find any mention of this anomaly. Having to type in my own names to save images is time consuming and painstaking as I want to use the originally intended name and avoid duplication.

Has anybody experienced this problem? Is there a setting for this?

This might be the deal breaker for me to finally give up on IE. Thanks.

have you tried with any other browser? it is possible that the website doesn't serve the correct HTTP headers for your requested resource.

Thank ya'll for your suggestions.

Does clearing your browser cache make a difference?

No

Maybe this is some kind of software you installed that has changed the file association.

No, it's not a file association issue. I've run into some European jpg. v. jpeg incompatibility issues but those retain their correct names, Irfanview recognizes the incorrect extension and offers to correct it.

Sorry if you've tried this, but have you hit the reset IE settings under advanced?

Yes, no effect on the anomaly. I haven't experimented with lessening default security, privacy or content settings and hesitate to do so.

Yes, Google Chrome works fine.

Further clarification of my TWILGHT ZONE experience:

Drummerworld and Pearl Drummer's forum are two of the sites where some pictures can be saved as jpegs with (presumably) their intended name and some save jpegs save re-named "attachment" even within the same thread.

This happens on both a Dell Dimension Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66 GHz 4 GB RAM 64 bit with ATI video card desktop AND an HP Pavilion I7 2670QM 2.2 GHz 8 GB RAM with an ATI 1GB GDDR5 Radeon HD 6490M laptop. Both computers developed the identical problem on the same jpegs after IE11 was installed.

I haven't been able to find any correlation between the various photo hosting sites, but at least one of them is incompatible with IE11.

Thanks again!

Did anyone ever come up with a solution to this issue. My IE browser just started doing this in the last week or so. I tried all the suggestion solutions with out success. Chrome & Firefox work fine.

Have a look here (you need to expand the check boxes and configure how the attachment manager is set)

http://support.microsoft.com/KB/883260

Also try this:

Go to Internet Options and then click on the Security tab. Under 'Security level for this zone' there is a check-box with 'Enable Protected Mode' next to it. That box needs to be clear (un-checked). When I found the suggestion and went to that tab, I was surprised to see that the box was checked. Once I unchecked it and restarted windows, the problem was gone.
