whilst fiddling about testing my ram and managed to "lightly" bang my case down onto its platform.
since then i have noticed my temps have gone up from about 42-44 idle [48 load] to 46-48 idle and 54load - infact it jumps somewhat erratically in mbm from 44 to 51c.
Is the hsf/cpu interface really that delicate that i would have knocked it doing this?

i take it there is no other solution than to remove and reseat the hsf? i hate doing this!

I think you need to take the bull by the horns and do it. I certainly seems that the jolt partially dislodged the heatsink. Are you sure nothing else was changed? Maybe while you were in the case you unknowingly disconnected one of your cooling fans (obviously not the heatsink fan).

You're right, it sucks. But I try to look at work like that as a chance to make things better, or in some cases to spend more money. :) If your HSF is mounted with springs just give it a MILD tug (this worked for me once), that MAY reseat it, if not... It's time.
