Idle temps of 47 deg C. Does this sound normal?

Hi guys, I have an i2500k, P67A-GD65 mobo, hyper 212. Stock idle temps in the high 20s. Now OC'ed to 4.7ghz at 1.3V vcore. Load temps are 73 74deg, but idle temps are consistently in the mid to high 40s. Does this sound normal when idle? Is this bad for chip longevity?

What is your ambient temps? Are you living in a cold climate since 20C+ for a non OC is pretty low. 😱

Based on the ambient temps here, a Core i7 2600 has a 40C idle temp with a Hyper212+. It loads to 60C max but your CPU below 80C should be just fine although ideally lower temps are better.

Ambient temp is about 30deg +-5. Yeah thinking about clocking it a bit less so it doesnt die in 3 years 😛.

I doubt it would die in 3 years time from such temps but you could try dropping the temps a little by decreasing the Vcore till you reach a stable range for that speed. You could try decreasing the temps by improving case airflow by adding more fans or reduce cable clutter. Adding another 120mm fan to the Hyper212+ for a push pull configuration helps reduce the temps as well.

That seems awfully warm for an SB and 2500K. Mine (supposedly) idles around 25-28C at 1.35 vCore/4.5GHz - that said, it actually IDLES at ~1.0v/1.6 GHz.

You didn't disable the power saving features, right?

Idling ~15C over ambient for a medium-heavy OC isn't unreasonable.

Ah Thanks guys. I did turn off the powersaving features when following one of the OC'ing guides. I turned on C1e and my idle temps are about 4deg lower on average, as CPU downclocks to 1600ghz when idle or low load. This is nice! There is another setting called "power efficiency" on my MSI motherboard that I tried turning off, but did not appreciate much difference, so I left it back on. Anyone know specificially what this does?

On my main pc I always turn off the powersaving no EIST,turbo.C1 etc.
Now you get less vdrop and a much cleaner voltage

Turbo is great on your laptop and thats all.
Try watching your multipilier and voltage with a good Monitor and you will see the numbers never stop moving bad for ocing.
The SB has set a record for people asking about there temps do to speedstep.

Now one problem is this smaller core is harder to cool do to the less contact area.
If you invest a good cooler you will be able to oc the correct way.
If knew these chips were this fast I would have got a i7 and a apogee wb.
