I recently upgraded to an i7 3930k. In the HWInfo64 program, it usually says the the current CPU power package is around 25-28 watts when it's idling. This is with C1E, C3, C6, C7, Speed Step, and Turbo Boost enabled in the BIOS. Is this about right for an i7 3930k during idle with the CPU power saving features enabled? My i7 2600k idles at around 8-9 watts according to HWInfo64 with all CPU power saving features enabled in the BIOS, and that is a big difference in idle CPU power consumption between my i7 3930k and i7 2600k and that's why I'm a bit concerned about my i7 3930k's idle power consumption.

Now my i7 3930k consumes around 33w during idle at 1.2GHz. I checked CPU power consumption using HwInfo64. According to those graphs on that link even though it doesn't show directly what the CPU power consumption is I shouldn't be consuming much more power than an i7 2600k during idle. 33w just seems too much. It would be nice if somone here with the same CPU and motherboard would run HwInfo64 and check the CPU Package Power status. I just want to rule out a defective CPU.

I solved the problem about the high idle power consumption showing up in HwMonitor64. I had to disable some Asus power monitoring feature in this program. Now my 3930k idles at around 20-21w and also the cpu utilization is 0.1% instead of 3.5-4% before disabling that feature in the program. So to sum it all, my CPU was not really idle before disabling that Asus monitor feautre in the program.
