idle cpu use

i have a GIGABYTE GA7ZX-1 with an AMD Duron 800 cpu with 128megs of ram. my problem is that my computer doesn't seem to be performing as good as i think it should. my idle cpu use is at around 65%. sometimes it even climbs up to 90% of use, i don't think this is normal. what can be the problem?

idle cpu use should be 0%. there is either something terribly wrong, or you just need to delete some stuff from the startup. i have nothing running on my computer at all times, and because of this it is always blazing. im running a duron 800@1000...its super fast. 100FPS in halflife, and 150+FPS in Q3A. there is really no need for all these funky applications people always have open that people think make it go faster. for example, virus scanners. what is going on there? unless you download from a million unauthorized sites a day there isnt much use for it. and if you ever do get one...you can just install some cheapy version of something and get rid of it, then uninstall.

another possibility is your computer might be old and fragged to hell. maybe you need to format and clean up some stuff. i dunno, my .02

Running my Duron 700@900 @1.85V with a GW FOP38, I get about 46C. This is running the notorious CPU hog, RC5. At Idle, I'm about 6C less.

So at a gig, I'm guessing 49C at full load would be good, 43C at idle would be good.

BTW, what are your temps?

BTW, to chanuki,

check to see if you have any distributed programs running on your computer (like SETI, RC5, Prime95 etc).

ok, i dont know if this sutff is right, but here is some info for my duron 800

my cpu temp is at 42.8C

and the voltages are

+12V +12.19V
+5V +5.00V
Core 1.67V
1/0 3.40V

i don't know what stuff stuff means or if its affecting my comp, i just did a defrag and all and still sometimes the comp goes all high on the cpu use
