Idle CPU temp - 50C - too hot?

I set up my computer AMD 64 3000 with Zalman 7000 and the temperature seems too high. This temperature was showing in the motherboard stats btw. AM I doing somehing wrong here? Suggestions are welcome.

It's on the higher side, but it's not too hot. I'm assuming you're running at the slowest speed? What thermal compound are you using and you might want to try and apply it again.

No. That temp is perfectly fine. Whether or not it is "acceptable" depends on how anal you are about the temp. Personally, I only care if the system is experiencing trouble and I suspect a heat-related issue. My PC tends to run as "hot" as 62C under load. Some people would have their panties in a bunch at these temps. My computer remains stable during hours of operation at these temps, so I don't care. Buy the time that heat has damaged my components they will have long since lapsed into relics of an age old past.

Arctic Silver 5. I already reinstalled it with more thermal compound.

That temp is fine, but a little higher than i would think it should be idle, mine doesn't even get that hot during peak usage, however you might not have 7 fans running like me haha, but nothing to worry about i wouldn't think

What are your case temps? As others said, your temps are fine. But it is higher than I would have expected it to be with a Zalman CNPS-7000 and AS5.

i have a zalman 7000a with as5, the fan is turned down to the lowest speed using the fanmate. and with 1.79v going through my barton 2500+ mobile, my idle temp is 50 deg. my case fan is turned down rediculously low too, so i don't have great airflow...

if you're running default voltage, then it seems like you've done something wrong because it shouldn't be that hot unless you are running no case fans. that being said, others have stated that 50 deg won't break it, and they're likely right... but it might be worth figuring out why you're stuck at 50 on default speeds.

what exactly were you using to read the 'motherboard stats' -- try motherboard monitor 5 if you aren't using it already. the readings might be wrong, or maybe you put too much as5, or the bottom of your 7000 is uneven. those are my guesses.

Your fan mate lowers the voltage to your fan? that seems like it would ruin your fan. I have seen people use similar things to turn the lights off on their fan, or at least dim, thats not a problem for a light, a light will take any voltage under it's rating, but when you start dropping voltage on a fan that will make it work harder and will cause it to wear out faster, unless you have a fan specifically designed for speed variations.. i could be wrong, however i am an electrician and doing that to any other types of motors will wear them out faster, unless pc fans are just different. Seems weird that that can be possible

depends on ambient temp and case temp. if ur case is choked for fresh air..well cpu cooling won't be as good. 50c is fine.

Case temp was around 42C. Actually the case is open right now since I am still working on it. Dunno whether that has any significant effect or not.

My A64 3000 idles at 27C (800 mhz) with a TT Venus 12 and Panflo L1A (extremely low speed quiet fan). Case temp reads 32 - 33C. You sure your comp isn't on top of a heater or something?

i'm running the same cooling setup (Zalman + AS5) on the rig in sig, and i'm at 45C under load...
i'm not familiar with the A64 cpus, but it seems you're a tad on the high side.

maybe tighten the screws on the zalman mount a bit?
