Built a computer with the E8400 processor. Used the fan/heatsink that came with it. HAd to remove the original thermal pad and replaced it with antec thermal grease. Idled at 59c. Bought some tuniq off of ebay and some arcticlean 1 and 2 and some lentfree wipes.

now idles at 53c. the fan is mounted correctly and is tightly fit.

what more troubleshooting can i do? should i just buy a new fan/heatsink?if new heatsink/fan is the solution then please to be recommending one.

If you put too much thermal compound it can act as an insulator instead of a conductor. Make sure there is only a rice grain sized drop on it and then reseat. Also, make sure the voltage isnt cranked up in the bios, that would definately cause an overheat
