I wonder why they only offer G3's? Still, for $15K I could build a much faster x86 setup. The 4 node cluster I have on its way cost less than $3K, and includes 4GHz of Thunderbird processing power. For $15K I could expand that to 20GHz (hmm, there's an idea ;)), which would blow away their base configuration of 8 333MHz G3's.

And only IDE ATA/66 7200RPM drives? No SCSI RAID setups, and they are talking failsafe? Are the HDs hot-swappable? The number 1 problem we've had with hardware is disk drive failures. It's nice to be able to hot-swap the failed drive without having to shut down anything, and without any loss of data. It doesn't matter how many processors you have if you don't protect the data they are trying to process.

Just my 2 cents. :)
