idiotic pricing - BK

Just took the kids to burger king after an evening of fishing (late dinner)

I ordered the chicken tenders, lady asked me if I wanted the 5 piece or the 8 piece. Not being a BK connoisseur, I was only going by what I saw on the menu under chicken. After placing my order, I finally spotted the 5 piece. 99 cents. vs. 1.99 for 8. Hmmmmm....

So, when I got to the window to pay, I asked her to change it to 2 5-piece orders instead "just throw 2 more into the 8 pack and give me a penny back" Ironically, the extra penny hit the line where the tax goes up by 1 cent. So, I actually saved 2 cents.

Who are the retards who determine pricing like that?!

i think it's because the 8 pieces is in the regular menu, while the 5 pieces is on a special 'dollar menu' or something like that.

Wow...surely someone must have been thinking when they came up with this stuff? I mean...there must be a perfectly logical reason behind this. Honestly, I hope there is, because otherwise my faith in humanity just took a step in the wrong direction.

I had a lot of chicken tenders when I used to work in BK. yummy with the sweet and sour sauce or honey mustard!

Mac Juniors? 5 Piece BK Finger? I have seen neither of these oddities locally (Chicago or West Lafayette).

That shouldn't make a difference...

yes it should. assuming my statement was right, the regular price for the 5 pieces would be something higher, let's say 1.50.

in this normal case, it is more economic to buy the 8 pieces, which makes sense.

i've been meaning to do that since i started eating meat again

go into mcdonald's and get 40 chicken nuggets and a supersized milkshake and eat the whole deal in one sitting

no fries please

Theres idiotic pricing everywhere in the world.
Most times people just drive up and order what they want, they don't look at the price nor they really care.

Just today, I say saying to someone at work why do people keep buying cheeseburgers for $1.19 when the double cheese is $1. I have yet to see anyone order a double cheese with 1 piece of meat and 1 piece of cheese(which is the same as a cheeseburger).

I know over at Chili...they have a tuna entree that cost 9.99. Hell I order the Tuna sandwich which comes with the exact piece of tuna and it cost 7.99.

A favorite local place here, the Ale House. They sell a fish entree with rice for 9.99. You can get grouper, mahi or tuna.
But they sell a fish sandwich priced at 7.99 that comes with fries. Since we eat there so much, we always order the sandwich minus the buns and replace the fries for rice.....exactly the same thing for $2 cheaper.
The servers always give us a funny look when we order it that way.

Why the need to complain about it ?? If you're smart enough, just order what ever saves you money.

Take it home and mix it with an 8 cent packet of Top Ramen and you've got yourself spicy mexican noodles - college style 😀

It's really not idiotic pricing. Better than 90% of the people who want 8 chicken tenders are going to order the 8 piece and not two 5 pieces. Burger King makes more money and it doesn't cost the smart people any more because the smart people take advantage of the two 5 piece orders instead of buying a single 8 piece.

Almost fooled you.

That's why.

White castle crave case = 30 individual burgers/castles

You would think it'd be cheaper to order the crave case then 30 castles, right?

It is where I live? Burgers are $0.47 * 30 = $14.10. The Crave Case is $12.99.

Actually the 5pc being on the value menu probably does make a difference and is the reason for that price screwup. I too always get the 2 5pc, never got that stupid 8pc when I could get 10. Hell the value menu is always the first place I look at fast foods. 🙂 But like said they can trick a lot of people so why change it?

it's all done very scientifically, believe me ... I have worked on some projects at work where we determine prices for our products. only diff - we are working on industrial products, so we assume that our pricing will be analysed to death by commercial buyers.

for the kinda stuff you are talking about, they are targeting ppl who can barely figure out what's twice 99 cents without a Casio calculator...
