I bought mine to communicate with people.

On my terms, when I want to, i.e. for my own convenience. If I'm in the middle of supper or working on my car, or having a conversation with my housemates, for example, I'm not answering. Likewise, if I'm driving, I don't answer my cell.

A phone is a convenient means of communication, but it is not a master and there's no reason to treat a ringing phone as an order to put whatever else I'm doing on hold. Believe it or not, most people's lives are not so unbearably empty that a ringing phone is their only salvation from crushing boredom.

Those I can understand, sure if it's an extreme inconvenience to answer the phone then I don't do it either, but if it's ringing and I'm free I answer... You seem to have ignored it for no reason over a sustained period of time.

To me a ringing phone is the same as someone knocking at your door, it's rude to ignore them. If it's a slight inconvenience I answer the phone and tell them I can't talk, if it's an extreme inconvenience I won't be able to answer.
