Like OP said, they guy was an idiot and now he'll probably rot in some shitty Korean prison because of it. Someone call Darwin, he'll want to hear about this.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea said Tuesday it has detained an American man who illegally entered the country last week, following reports that a 28-year-old missionary from Arizona went to the communist nation on a mission to improve its human rights record.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency said in a brief dispatch that the American was detained and under investigation after illegally entering through the North Korea-China border last Thursday. It didn't identify the American man.

However, the report comes as South Korean activists say American missionary Robert Park, 28, slipped across the frozen Tumen River into North Korea from China last week with letters calling for a change in North Korea's leadership and an end to political prison camps.

The Rev. John Benson, the pastor of Life in Christ Community Church in Park's hometown of Tucson, Arizona, said he was happy to hear Park was alive.

Did we mention he was American?

"Idiot" pretty much sums it up. He wasn't risking anything for his "fellow man". He was risking his stupid neck for his own ego. Furthermore, had his mission to convert/sway anyone been achieved, he also would have put the lives of these folks in peril as well.

I guess the letter from Mister Park and the love of Jeebus will make the North Koreans more humane and make the entire regime resign in shame:rolleyes:

Lol I can't wait to see how this gets twisted into a barb in Obama's side.

Let the man pay for his own stupidity and he's a godless communist.

Get the man out of North Korea and he's palling around with dictators.

I doubt the NKoreans will keep him long at all, unless they can find some sort of leverage that's not apparent. From their POV, he's obviously crazy, delusional, sentiment likely shared by our own State Dept...

Why would we want him back? There is no reason not to let him rot in hell.

How do you know his motivations? Most of us here think NK has a crap human rights record, how dare we condemn a person who actually did something about it beyond bitching on the internet?

Because our govt has an obligation to seek justice for Americans imprisoned overseas. What you advocate is not justice.

Idiot is not a woman, idiot will not get saved by Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton did not save those two journalists. It was white house concessions and booty prizes to North Korea that saved them.

From now on anyone attempting to sneak into North Korea should purchase capture insurance. That way if they are captured and the U.S. Government has to pay for their release, they can use the insurance money to pay back the federal government. Otherwise you get a nice holiday in a north korean gulag.

What an awesome idea. All the other missionaries should go there also. I think they could really make an impact.

What exactly did his actions accomplish? He went to place he knew he was going to get cuffed and stuffed before getting a word in edgewise. With a government controlled media, if they reported anything, it is likely "America sends terrorist/spy across border to kill/enslave noble people". His mission was a folly, based on his desire to promote his sock puppet god. His ego was larger than his brain.

He's already more notorious and brought more attention to NK than everyone in this thread combined ever will, hasn't he?

People outside NK were already well aware that the place is hell on earth. Now the US will feel obligated to retrieve the twit meaning approaching hat in hand, offering concessions of some sort, further strengthening the NK regime. The guy undermined US policy for his own self gratification.

And how many millions of taxpayer dollars will Obama spend to get him out? Hopefully, none.

Nope... pure idiot.

You can't sway people that have been indoctrinated from birth in a belief. Kind of how religion works. Basically in N Korea, most of the people don't even know that there is such things as televisions because that information, along with the rest of the modern world, is withheld from them. They are told stories about how we are all basically demons inhabiting human skins and are out to get their children when they fall asleep. If you think I'm lying there are stories of a few escapees that got away to tell their tales.

So what we have here is one indoctrinated fool who can't be swayed looking to change the minds of other indoctrinated fools. That's one good definition for the term "idiot" to me.

Why would anyone here want to go there...except when there's a call of duty? NK is one of the worst countries on earth. What could this guy have possibly accomplished?

If the U.S. army revoked my disqualification and they needed troops to overthrow the north korean government... sure. But yeh you are right Dari... all one person can hope for is a good beat down from the north korean gestapo when they get caught. People are so afraid of the government that they will likely turn you in for picking your nose in public.
