I used a GeForce MX 440 in a Dell Dimension from ~98-03 before I built my first computer 🙂 It was probably the fourth video card I ever bought.

This is one of the products I mentioned earlier that should do the job very well if you cared enough.

Can you buy that product or a similar product in a store? Would a local computer shop carry that stuff?

Honestly, I think if the stuff I used did not take it off, I don't think anything will but I could be wrong. That cleaner I used is pretty good stuff mixed with water let alone pure concentrate. Heck, the paste is still sticky.

Just curious, did I ruin the effectiveness of the heatsink taking off the outer layer? Is the card going to run hotter now?
