I'm going to look at these bikes tomorrow and was wonder if anyone could identify the year of the rockhopper bike. Maybe some additional info on the quality if you or someone you know owns one.

BTW you think its a good deal or should I be looking to haggle?

Thanks in advanced

It is not a good deal for $350.

You can get a new 2004 Rockhopper for about $450.

It looks like the NONE COMP version.

The Comp version 2004 sells for about $700ish.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll try to talk him down a bit. My girlfriend wanted a decent bike (the raliegh)and I thought the package seemed like a good deal.

I just bought a new bike for myself.

Before I made the buy, I did about 20+ hrs of reading (almost every single posts on www.mtbr.com for bikes under $1000 / reviews on google).

If you are looking for new bikes around $350-500 range.

The Rockhopper is an excellent buy, I personally like the Gary Fisher Tass for about the same price.

I recently bought a GT i-drive 3.0 new for gf at $450 shipped. (Check f@twallet.com, do a search on bike). They were also selling GT timberline new for $140ish.

Also, think about how you are going to maintance the bikes. Buying it new from a local bike shop (LBS) would give you 3 years+ tuneups for free. Unless you know what you are doing, it is a huge pain to tune it yourself.

Anyone know of good shops in the Bay Area? Ones that might have good deals on last years models?

It came down to either the Stumpjumper none-comp OR the Gary Fisher Big Sur.

The Gary Fisher have a better frame (ZR9000), but the Stumpjumper had a much better fork (Fox RL80).

My LBS had the Big Sur for $150 less than the stumpjumper, so that was the decision breaking factor.
