Identify missing font ---> isâ?¦

On any number of web pages I get junk displayed like this isâ?¦ I think it means I'm missing a font, but how do I identify what is missing. Or, am I wrong -- is it something else. BTW I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.3

It could be unicode and just that you don't have the asian pack installed. I just scrolled through the different languages, the closest I can think of is the ? but in simplified Chinese.

This is on various websites that are in good old English. That's what made me think it's a font error.

Here is another example:

George Bushâ??s

This is almost common to see.

Would help to link to such a page.

Oddities like "George Bushâ??s" often result from people pasting text straight from Microsoft Word without disabling its "smart quotes" feature. The results can be ugly. This is a problem on their end, not yours.

It is also conceivable the page is being rendered with the wrong encoding. I don't know where Firefox puts this option, but it's probably under View or something like that.

If you were missing the font the page called for, your browser would just use its own default.
