I just gutted a scanner for a project, and saw this red bead part at two places on the parallel port interface board. There's two of them, labeled on the board as TP1 and TP2. Each appears to only have a single solder point. I'm just curious as to what they are.

Also, the picture was taken courtesy in part, to the lens I took from the scanner - my Kodak DC3200 can't take good pictures much closer than 4 feet from something. This picture was taken from about 2cm away, with the lens held right in front of the camera's own. 🙂

My one regret is that Plustek chose not to make WinXP drivers for this scanner (FBIVP) - that was what condemned this device to this gruesome reincarnation - a PC inside a scanner. Yeah, it's been done before, but I wanted to try it anyway.
