What are some ideas on how to raise money to pay for some dental work I want to get done? My company does allow me to put aside money tax-free, so that's one option.

Anyone else have a good method of saving for a large purchase?

Take out a loan that specializes in dental work. Of course go for one with low interest.

I'm getting braces when I graduate this winter so i'm kinda in the same boat.

Pics?

My braces cost $2000 back in the early 90s. (I was in my 20s at the time). Why so much for you?

It's not just braces - Braces can work wonders for a growing child's mouth (like age 9-15) but I'm 24 so my orthodontist thinks it'll possibly take some in-office surgery to get good results.

Have someone knock out your teeth with a baseball bat and start new! False teeth would probably cost less.

My uncle had his teeth knocked out in the late 70's. From what I heard he was high on downers and got into a fight with a bunch of guys. This one guy took a baseball bat and slammed it right into his face, OUCH! No more teeth.

Also, my buddy told me that he saw this fight and this guy put the persons opened mouth on the curb of a sidewalk. Then that same person jumped as hard as he could on the person's head and broke all his teeth. DOUBLE OUCH!

That makes me cringe thinking about it :Q:shocked:

I was in my 20s, and the only invasive thing I had to have done was two upper teeth pulled to make room for the front teeth to come back.

Do yourself a favor and get a few other opinions. I've ran into more than a couple crooked dentists in my time.

Do beware though, Flexible Spending Accounts (I assume that's what you're talking about) mandate that you use all the money that year or you lose it. If you aren't sure about the procedure or timing, I'd wait).

maybe it would work... I'll say they can buy a future-kiss from me at a price that will be considered a steal once my mouth looks better :)

it's hard to tell between overcharging and undercharging. While paying more might mean I'm getting screwed, paying less might mean I won't get good results. I think I trust this orthodontist... my dentist, a family friend, recommended him.

I don't mean just over charging. I mean doing unnecessary procedures and suggesting procedures I later found I absolutely did not need. Had I not moved before I could get them done, I would have never known I was being scammed.

Put an ad in your local newspaper saying you will fix peoples computers for half the price then what they would pay to go to BB or CC. I did that once and I made some good money fast.:D

maybe I'll combine that with the flexible spending account thing. what'd you charge? (what did circuit city/compusa charge?)
