Has he ever tried using his feet? I haven't put too much practice into it, but I'm decent at Soul Calibur and Mario Kart with my feet. The Mad Catz Cubicon Gamecube controller is set up fairly well for it.

I also saw an interesting review one time, of a curious pointing device: http://www.dansdata.com/trackir.htm Not exactly god's gift to action heroes; but might well be good for slower stuff, or in concert with a joystick for flight sims.

Wow... that's incredible. I wish I could afford that for him, cause I think it might work. He has some trouble with the mouse, so even beyond games, that'd help him with basic tasks.

I agree with the turn-based games. Civilization for example.

What about the Nintendo Revolution controller? Would be be able to operate that?
Two small sensors placed near the TV and a chip inside the controller track its position and orientation, allowing the player to manipulate the action on screen by physically moving the controller itself. For example, you could slash an in-game sword by actually swinging the controller from side to side, turn a race car just by twisting your wrist, or aim your gun in a shooter by pointing the controller where you want to fire.

trouble is that he doesn't have much wrist motion, it'd have to be twisting with his whole arm, which would get tiring very fast

That is absolutely horrible. I hate to hear that. I hope he eventually regains most of this reflexes. Stories like this make my problems seem so trivial.

Anyhoo, Why has not anybody brought up World of Warcraft. That game is just click the icons, and you get a good 5-10 secs between them. Heck, i could write i macro for all my solo battles,.. probably. Only chating would be a 8itch.

I usually just right-click on the enemy, and then press 2, 3, 4, 5 up through my progression.

Of course, first you gotta send the pet after them with ctrl+1.

How about RPGs? Like KOTOR. Intriguing story, and lots of "action", but you don't need fast reflexes since you just queue up moves.

QFT KTOR is a great choice.

I'm afraid he's as healed as he ever will be... the bombing was back in 1990

what about racing games? im thinking if you could find a controller that would fit his hands well(maybe and adapter with some type of gamecube controller, with the large button?), he could steer, then gas and brake. that would be some action without being too twitch.

Do any speech-text converters work in games like WoW?

Other than that I'd highly recommend anything by Sid Meyers (creator of Civilization and many other games). 🙂

WTF? He got mail bombed? What was the motive? Does he know who did this? I want more on this story, you just said it happened in the OP but didn't expound on it, please do so.

i was going to suggest sim city

or maybe command and conquer

im curious too about the whole letter bomb thing

these are all good suggestions... my friend's brother (RIP) developed a tumor in his brain stem when he was 19, which grew and quickly inhibited his motor functions. eventually he had to be pushed around in a wheel chair and could barely hold a spoon to feed himself. but since he grew up playing video games, he kept playing and could easily play sim city, civ 3, and age of empires. i'm sure there are plenty more like them out now that your mom's bf will have little to no trouble with
