Ideas on how to get a kite to fly?

I have some cheap plastic dora kites that fly well, but a "Mini super flyer" from Go Fly A Kite, a company from CT. It's a decent kite, if entry. The problem is that after it gains altitude by several feet it inevitably goes to one side and noses in. Not always the same side. I had another guy with me when I tried it and it really was not user error; the kite just either does not fly for crap or there is a way somehow to tweak it. I presume the latter.

Any ideas?

How about turning that kite into a remote-controlled plane that drops little dry-ice bombs? Make it SLi and you'll be the coolest kid on the block.

You need decently strong wind, and a large area to run. have the other guy hold it straight up, and start running toward wind. as soon as the kite goes up, start tugging the string and coax it to go up.

Its more of an art then just a action.

So... YOU were that doofus I saw at the park who couldn't get his rainbow kite to fly today! Man... you really looked like a tool doing that, too :)

seriously, the thing will not fly, it goes badly to the side. I know the basics of flying a kite and can fly a dora kite like a madman, this kite needs help!

if it's not user error than the kite just sucks. i've had kites that wouldn't go up, and if there is a good wind a good kite is going to fly.

I almost sent my daughters Dora kite into the stratosphere, (well not really) but when dads get bored, kid toys get insane. She broke the string on it a few weeks ago so I replaced it with a 500 yard spool of fishing line. That took some time to get back down to Earth.

When I was a kid and they did that we would put a tail with 3-4 "bowties" of newspaper on them.

1. Either the tail is not long enough or,
2. the sting is attached too close to the surface of the kite and/or
3. both

this may be why he is having a hard time flying a kit.

OP were you outside doing this?

Yeah, I just pictured him in front of a box fan screaming "FLY YOU FILTHY MOTHERFUCKER!" at a kite.

Thanks, I'll look at the tail length/significance and the string.

Yes, I was outside. No, it's not a kite that requires one to run. All running does is bring on wind speed and it was plenty windy!
Does this look anything like your Dora Kite?

yes!
