Any ideas on my gaming PC build (changes, recommendations, things I have not thought of, etc.)? I play MMO, RTS, and FPS games. I don't intend to OC at first, but may in the future. The PC will be for mainly for gaming, no video editing, home theatre, etc. Price $2000.00 max.

ASUS Z-87 Pro V Intel LGA1150 Motherboard
Intel i5-4670K 3.4 GHz 6MB Cache Haswell CPU (stock cooler)
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
Samsung EVO 1TB SSD
EVGA GTX770 2GB Video Card
Corsair Carbide 500R Case
Corsair HX-750 750W PSU
Optical Drive
probably Windows 7 OS

Thanks

Samsung EVO 1TB SSD
 Another proposed build with a 1TB SSD? How much space do your games take now? Do you really think you'll need 1TB for all the games you play?

Could you also answer [thread=80121]some other questions[/thread] for us? There might be better things to spend a lot of that SSD money on. (Or there might not be.)

Get a normal 1TB or 2TB HDD with 64MB buffer and a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO, and use the money you save to buy a GTX780 and i7 instead. You'll be MUCH better off, trust me.

Seriously, that buy is unbalanced as crap, all because of the SSD and the single channel RAM. Get another DIMM of 8GB in there, if you can, or at least go for 2x4GB DDR3.

If you plan to OC, go ahead and get a better cooler. They're not too expensive, a pain to install later, and it's not like they'll turn to crap from cooling a stock speed CPU for awhile.

If in the U.S., the M500 offers much better bang/buck than the Evo, and as a basic gaming machine, the speed differences are absolutely nil between most SSDs, today (they're nil for a lot of other uses, too, but especially a basic gaming desktop).

What does that motherboard offer than a Z87-A doesn't?

Single-channel RAM won't matter, not using IGP, but I 2nd everything else said by the other 2.

Oh, sorry about the RAM I listed as 8GB, should have said 2x4GB.

The Z87-Pro has better audio and since I won't be using a audio card....also has better heat sinks.

As far as the SSD, I just like the idea of not using a noisy, clunky mechanical HD. I have a lot of games installed at one time, around 25 or so. For example I have UT3 installed, and also UT2004, UT2003, and the original Unreal Tournament.
I see all these threads asking if someone is going to install the OS or games on their SSD. So why not install everything on an SSD?

For cooling, I have since read about the overheating Haswells. I really don't think I will de-lid it, that's kinda scary. I'll probably get a cooler like the Hyper 212 EVO.

Thanks for the responses.

Going for an i5 + 770 instead of an i7 + 780 because of some little noise while loading games, that's some logic right there.

Go for it.

I play a lot of different games, and I keep many of them on my hard drive. There's no doubt that loading off of a hard drive is much, much slower in every game, and that can be pretty annoying. But there's absolutely zero difference in game performance.

So, a 1TB SSD is a nice extravagance, but it only makes sense if you've maxed out everything else. Buy a 500GB drive and use the extra $200 you save to get a GTX 780 plus a 1TB laptop drive for quiet storage.

Another thing - the HX750 is a nice power supply, but it's overkill for your system, and not the most modern unit. Consider the excellent Seasonic 550W G Series, which will save you some money while being just as good.

And, by the way, welcome to the forums. Don't mind the somewhat rough welcome you've received - just enthusiasts being enthusiasts!

What vendors will you be buying from? The board is very nice, but it isn't the only board with the ALC1150 codec. 1TB SSD is not cost-effective at your budget. 480 GB should be enough to store 10-13 of your top favorites while the rest could go into a hard drive.

Something like the following. There are rebates for the PSU and case
